10 Year and Lifetime Achievement Jury
The CTBUH Board of Trustees is responsible for selecting both Lifetime Achievement winners, CTBUH Fellows, and the 10 Year Award winners. The Trustees are also responsible for possibly designating a “Global Icon” winner, which may or may not be at the Best Tall Building Jury’s suggestion (Global Icon winners are rare — only one has been issued to date: the Burj Khalifa in 2010).
Best Tall Building Jury
The Best Tall Building Jury is responsible for judging submitted buildings within five height categories and four function categories, and from those, ultimately the Worldwide Winner. The five-member jury is multidisciplinary (architect, urban planner, building developer/occupier, socio-economist, etc.) and represents a diverse geographic spread.
Construction Jury
This jury is made up of experts in the field of tall building construction.
Façade Engineering Jury
This jury is made up of experts in the field of tall building façade engineering.
Fire & Risk Engineering Jury
This jury is made up of experts in the field of tall building fire & risk engineering.
Geotechnical Engineering Jury
This jury is made up of experts in the field of tall building geotechnical engineering.
Innovation Jury
All engineering juries also review any submission to the Innovation Award and make recommendations on strong candidates related to their field of expertise which they feel are worthy of “Award of Excellence” winner recognition. The Engineering Jury Chairs then go on to judge the Overall Category Winner.
Interior Space Jury
This jury is typically made up of interior designers/architects that have a background in, and experience with, tall building interiors.
MEP Engineering Jury
This jury is made up of experts in the field of tall building MEP engineering.
Renovation Jury
This jury is typically made up of architects/engineers that have a background in, and experience with, tall building renovation, preservation, etc.
Structural Engineering Jury
This jury is made up of experts in the field of tall building structural engineering.
Urban Habitat Jury
In addition to judging the two Urban Habitat categories, this jury also provides urban insights on the Best Tall Building Award candidates, to assist the Best Tall Building Jury in choosing the ”Award of Excellence” Winners. The jury is typically made up of urban planners, city planners, landscape architects, academics, and architects with a strong urbanistic viewpoint.
