The immense investment required to construct tall buildings, and the short time frames in which they must be built in order to be financially viable, would seem to limit opportunities for innovation, even if the advantage to be gained by increases in efficiency can be great. Yet, each year, a substantial portfolio of inventive solutions emerges, which seem poised to push the industry higher yet again. Some are obvious to the occupier; some are achieving their goals only if most people are unaware of them. This presentation discusses robust responses to the full range of challenges facing tall buildings in terms of constructability, architectural beauty, safety, and efficiency.
